About Kelley Crittenden

The acupunture practice of Kelley Crittenden, a licensed board certified acupuncturist, is steeped in the tradition of thousands of years of Chinese Medicine.  Her philosophy of practice is mirrored in her logo, the tree, rooted in the ground with branches reaching toward the sky, symbolic of the human spirit, grounded and forever reaching upward.

From that grounded state, combining acupuncture with Chakras - the seven energy centers of the body - Kelley's work elevates and uplifts the whole person enabling each to reach beyond one's grasp to attatin his/her full potential of living well in mind-body and spirit.

Kelley has practiced in Scottsdale for eight years.  She originally joined the Scottsdale Holistic Medical pratice of Dr. Gladys McGarey, MD, MDH, internationally recognized as the Mother of Holistic Medicine, and Dr. Gladys' daughter, Dr. Helene Wechsler.

Kelley, now in private practice, brings a plethora of varied lifetime experiences into her practice of acupuncture.  These experiences complement her formal training, giving her a deeper understanding of each patient and the concerns that bring each individual to acupunture.

She interacts with her clients and always uses a hands on approach in her one on one treatments.  Included in each session are castor oil packs with heat, Dr. Richard Tan's Balance Method and Five Element assessment, essential oils, some body work and Colorpuncture - a system of using colored light crystals at specific acupoints.

Kelley utilizes her marvelous sense of humor, her experiences, her understanding of human nature and the art of pulse assessment to determine the appropriate treatment for each individual.  Acupuncture helps the body heal itself before manifesting as serious illness.  If illness is present, she works with the condition as it exists.  Spiritual and emotional issues are a part of one's health and knowing there is a crucial connection between the mind and one's state of health, she works to create the appropriate balance in each person.

Acupuncture, together with moderation, eating well and adequate rest are methods for taking responsibilitiy for one's own body.  She does not claim to replace Western medicine, she compliments it.  Physicians from around the state frequently refer patients to Kelley.  She is on the referral list of Dr. Andrew Weil's Department of Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson.  She now receives many referrals from Dr. Weil's department.  One physician in that department said, "I receive only rave reviews of Kelley's work from every patient I sent to her."

An honor graduate of New York University in New York City, Kelley traveled in Europe for two years.  She then co-owned a bookstore on the upper Eastside of Manhattan for several years.  Later she graduated from the prestigious Swedish Institute as a massage therapist.  After two years of massage therapy practice, she was guided to take her experiences and healing hands to a higher level.  She trained and entered the practice of acupuncture to reach those deeper levels.

She received a Master's degree in Acupuncture fro the Tradition Acupuncture Institute, now known as TAI Sophia Institute in Laurel, Md., the first accredited acupuncture program in the United States.  Admission requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  She choseTAI because it is a five element school, which teaches the significance of the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood, thus a closer connection to nature.  These five elements symbolically express the movement of nature and correspond to the body, mind and spirit of each individual.  Kelley's goal is always to bring a balance to each person.

She continues learning and updating her skills by frequently attending workshops and seminars.

Kelley feels very lucky and blessed to be doing this work....

LIFE IS GOOD!
