“Greetings! Allow me to share who I am and some particular views about Rolfing that keep me passionate about this work after 30 years.”
About Rolfing…..
Principles and Goals
The uniqueness of Rolfing is the focus on our Relationship with Gravity, the most fundamental and constant force we have to deal with as human bodies. Dr. Ida P. Rolf, founder of this work, teaches that mal-alignment with gravity can show up in your body structure as low back and neck pain, poor posture, constant fatigue, tight, restricted muscles and movement, and depression.
Life traumas, painful memories, genetic and behavioral patterns, emotional issues and mental stress are expressed in your structure. We often avoid our physical self and live in our mental and spiritual selves to get away from these painful memories that are stored in our tissues. This tightening creates a random, unbalanced body.
The Primary Goal of Rolfing is to align and integrate the physical structure so the body can come into balance around a central vertical axis, often called “the line”. This creates
new order, lift and grounding.
With gentle yet deep touch, the tissues can let go of stored history that shapes your body and your behavior in a disorganized, unbalanced way. You can begin to feel more open, more spacious and authentic. Your focus can move from problems to potential and new possibilities.
Benefits
Aligning and integrating the body structure allows gravity to become a force that supports, uplifts, heals and nourishes. Pain free, graceful movement, better balance, coordination and flexibility, peak performance in sports and workouts, softening the ‘aging process’ and a sense of vitality and well being, are just a few of the specific results to be expected.
Tools and Practice
With intentional touch and appropriate pressure, the strain patterns in your connective tissue web are released and reorganized. The goal is to bring the parts of your body into integration of the whole body. This includes bringing body, mind and spirit together in that sense of wholeness. I use CranioSacral® Therapy, movement education, breath, talk, good humor, empowerment and partnership to facilitate our work together. The Rolfing experience is a proactive process with client and Rolfer working together in mutual responsibility.
Rolfing is not appropriate for people with acute illness or disease. Specific structural issues are addressed through the whole body approach. My passion for this work is going beyond symptom relief into the realm of personal growth and development. Feeling aligned, integrated and balanced allows you to uncover your untapped potential - to begin to
embody your dreams. What is your next step towards your own Personal Evolution?
Most asked Questions
Q: What about the pain?
A: The depth and pressure of my touch is guided by your response and personal sensitivities. I ask for continual feedback. Contrary to popular opinion, Rolfing does not have to be painful. As in any other growth process, there can be moments of discomfort and intensity.
Q: How many sessions do I need?
A: Dr. Rolf created a ‘10 Series’ based on specific anatomical logic. This series offers deeper and more permanent results than “symptom work”. I use a 12 Session format for the
10 structural / functional goals. I offer a 3 Session Series that begins structural changes and gets immediate results. Also available, is a Single Session for us to meet and experience the work. After the initial 10 Series, I advise ‘tune ups’ and advanced work to support and deepen your structural changes.
Q: Do the changes last?
A: The key to maintaining the changes is your commitment to stay awake and aware of what is going on in your body. It is your responsibility to ‘own the work’ and to take your structural changes into your daily functioning. We discuss ways to do this during every session.
Client Quotes
“C” age 56: “I can now get out of bed without a stiff back and having to walk stooped over for 10 minutes before I can stand up straight.”
“J” age 84: “I went through the Rolfing Series for the fourth time in 2004. I stopped grieving for my dead husband for the first time in 2 years. I could then go on with my life. My husband would not get Rolfed with me when I first started 30 years ago. He aged terribly, I did not. I still use this work to keep me going”
“T” age 35: “After I separated my shoulder in a motorcycle accident, I immediately went to get Rolfed. Three months later, I was able to lift weights again. I still use Rolfing to keep me in shape.”
“N” age 60: “I felt no pain in my Rolfing session until the arm session when I felt severe pain coming out of my arms. I vividly remembered how painfully guilty and grieved I felt at not being able to hold my friend when she was dying. After I released those painful memories, I felt whole.”
